About our AAC Group
Our AAC group, facilitated by a Speech Pathologist, offers a supportive environment for individuals who use Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). Participants will have the opportunity to practise language skills, navigate social interactions, and connect with others who use similar methods of communication.
Who can attend?
Our AAC group is suitable for both high tech and low tech AAC users. We accept both new, and long-term AAC users, including clients who have previously, or are currently receiving, 1:1 Speech Pathology intervention.
What will the group address?
During the therapy block. participants of our AAC Group will learn about:
- Different communication styles and modes of communication
- Advocating for sensory and emotional needs.
- Communicating for a range of functions and purposes, including to:
- Share information
- Ask questions
- Make comments
- Important skills for interaction including:
- Starting and ending conversations
- Conversation topics
- Managing miscommunications
- To understand and use ‘core vocabulary’
- How to Navigate social interactions with peers
- To understand operational and interaction skills unique to AAC (e.g. finding new vocabulary)
How much does it cost?
Upon registering your interest online, or through your therapist (for current clients), you will be provided with information on the specific costs associated with attending the group. Rebates are available for clients with private health insurance and NDIS funding. Please note that payments are upfront and non-refundable.
