What is Music Therapy
Music therapy is the use of 🎶 music to improve the health, wellbeing and quality of life of children and adults of all ages. It is an evidence-based profession that seeks to enhance communication, behaviours, movements, social interactions and thoughts of participants engaging in music.
Music therapists work with clients, their caregivers and wider support team (including speech pathologists and occupational therapists) to develop bespoke sessions that consider the client’s needs, therapy goals, musical preferences, previous experiences with music and sensory profile. Music Therapy sessions can involve:
- 🎤 Singing
- 🎹 Playing instruments
- 🎧 Listening and 🕺🏼 moving to music
- 🎼 Discussing the meaning of lyrics
- ✍🏼 Writing music
