About our Group Home Services
Our team of speech pathologists provide both individual assessment and intervention services, and training services for staff in group homes and disability accomodation.
We can partner with group home managers and coordinators to provide the following individualised services:
- Assessment of all current and new residents for communication disability and swallowing difficulties
- In person and online training for group home staff, with a focus on:
- Assisting staff to better recognise and understand communication and swallowing disabilities, and associated behaviours of concern
- Training staff on how best to respond to each resident’s communication profile and swallowing difficulties
- Training staff on using Augmentative and Alternative Communication with residents
- Training on when to refer on to specialist services and what information to provide
- Training regarding eating and drinking supports for those residents with swallowing difficulties
- General training on reducing the risk of choking in the group home setting, and ensuring safe nutrition and hydration for all residents
- Screening of communication support needs for residents displaying behaviours of concern
- Development and provision of accessible information for residents, their families and staff at group homes
- Collaborating with other professionals to ensure residents are accessing holistic, individualised care
